Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram says Trinidad and Tobago is set to partner with the government of Guyana to produce soybeans.

Minister Ratiram said over $300 million dollars is spent annually on importing soybean oil.

Senator Ratiram says Trinidad and Tobago is positioning to deepen agricultural ties with India, as the sector looks to expand and modernise.

The Agriculture and Fisheries Minister delivered the feature address at an agri-business forum titled “Exploring Opportunities with India: Agriculture and Food Processing”, held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mount Hope.

The event explored practical areas for collaboration, including technology transfer, capacity building, value-added food processing, agro-industry development and improved access to markets for local produce.

Minister Ratiram reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting partnerships that promote sustainability, innovation and new opportunities for farmers and agro-processors.

The forum was hosted by the Indian High Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and NAMDEVCO, and attracted regional and international stakeholders across the agricultural sector.
