Iran is warning that access through the critical Strait of Hormuz will require coordination with Tehran.
In a statement, the country’s Defence Council said only “non-hostile” nations would be allowed safe passage, raising tensions in one of the world’s most important oil routes.
Iran also warned that any attack on its coasts or islands would trigger the mining of key waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials say such action could effectively block the entire Gulf, placing responsibility on any aggressor.
The development adds to growing security concerns in the region.
