Former National Security Minister, Gary Griffith, has stressed the urgency of addressing the possible influx of Venezuelan refugees, following the capture of deposed President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday.

In a Facebook post yesterday, he pointed to the risk of criminal elements exploiting the situation, with illegal goods like weapons and drugs potentially flooding the southwestern peninsula.

He called for a comprehensive plan to boost Coast Guard patrols, increase army presence, and enhance police strength in affected areas.

Additionally, Mr Griffith highlighted the importance of collaborating with the US for essential resources like drones and aircraft to strengthen national defense.
