Grenada has moved to amend its Marriage Act, raising the legal age for marriage from 16 to 18.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said the change is designed to better protect vulnerable children and ensure alignment with the age of civil responsibility, also set at 18.
He also highlighted that the amendment is part of a broader effort to modernize the country’s laws, aiming to prevent early marriages driven by financial pressures.
He also defended a related bill, which would allow minors access to sexual and reproductive healthcare without parental consent, stressing the need to protect children from exploitation.
