A national policy for gated communities will be developed by the Government to reinforce its crime fighting measures.
At yesterday’s post cabinet media briefing, Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen said an inter-ministerial committee has been appointed to develop the policy.
It will include representatives from several Ministries, including Planning, Works, Health, Public Utilities; Agriculture, and the Attorney General.
There will also be representatives from local government bodies and the Tobago House of Assembly.
The committee will assess the rise in home invasions and draft a policy and guidelines for establishing gated communities, to be presented to Cabinet.
The Minister added that the policy will be designed to work in tandem with the Stand Your Ground policy as a measure to protect communities
