The Government has raised serious concerns about the management of the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) under the former administration.
Minister of Land and Legal Affairs, Sean Sobers, revealed at a media conference on Tuesday that an audit revealed widespread non-compliance with reporting requirements, missing financial statements, absence of a fixed asset register, and lack of procurement policies for smaller contracts.
He said that irregularities were found in staff contracts, including retirement dates and allowances.
In one example, the Minister revealed a person, who is believed to be relative of a former Prime Minister, received a monthly salary of $44,000, and was allowed to continue in the post despite reaching retirement age.
In addition, Minister Sobers said that prime properties were allegedly leased to associates of the former administration at below-market rates.
He deemed revenue management and contract oversight, and he said this undermined transparency and accountability.
The Foreign Affairs Minister said the current government is now reviewing CDA lands and facilities to implement a proper business model, with a focus on better management, investment, and development.
