Four police officers have been charged with misbehaviour in public office.
The TTPS announced at a media conference today that the officers appeared before the San Fernando Magistrates Court after finding a firearm and ammunition during a search but falsely recording that nothing illegal was discovered.
The officers later made a false entry claiming that the firearm was found elsewhere.
Bail was granted, ranging from $50,000 to $270,000.
Meanwhile, another officer was arrested for allegedly substituting seized narcotics at the Siparia Police Station.
“Let me be clear that any officer who believes they can use this organization as a shield for criminal activity is gravely mistaken. If you choose to engage in wrongdoing, you will be found, you will be removed, and you will face the full brunt of the law,” Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro later stated.
