The Aquatics Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago is mourning the passing of national swimming icon Stephan Ottley, who died on Sunday, October 26th.

Ottley made history as Trinidad and Tobago’s first male competitor at the World Short Course Swimming Championships, finishing among the world’s top thirty in both the 100 and 200 metre breaststroke.

A former CARIFTA, CISC, and CCCAN medalist, he also held numerous national and regional records, and earned a scholarship to Brown University in the United States.

Known for his humility and generosity, Stephan personally honoured a young swimmer who broke one of his records in 2023—symbolizing his lasting spirit of encouragement.

The ASATT says Ottley’s legacy will forever ripple through Trinidad and Tobago’s waters.
