Former Naparima College principal Dr Allan McKenzie was remembered as a man of deep faith and lifelong service at his funeral yesterday.

Tributes were paid at the Susamachar Presbyterian Church in San Fernando, where speakers reflected on a life defined by dedication to education, community and country.

Dr McKenzie died last Tuesday at the age of 92.

His daughter, Alicia McKenzie-Barrow, described him as a devoted father whose unwavering faith guided a life of service.

She spoke of his achievements in academia, educational leadership and philanthropy, while also sharing personal memories of him as her “Papa”.

McKenzie-Barrow said that success should be measured by how one serves others, not only family but the wider community. “He was my hero,” she said.

Friend and colleague Roy Narinesingh said service was the defining theme of McKenzie’s life, driven by a love for humanity.

Retired vice principal Devanand Gosine said McKenzie embodied the Rotary Club’s motto of “Service Above Self”, noting that the former principal, fondly known as “Mac”, did not merely lead but transformed.

In 2023, Naparima College honoured him by renaming its Science Block in his name.
