Fishermen and Friends of the Sea are again urging the Government to act urgently against illegal shrimp trawling along the North Coast.
FFOS says rogue trawlers continue to damage marine life and destroy fishing gear, despite strict laws limiting the practice between November 15 and January 15.
The group claims enforcement remains weak, even with new radar capability, and is calling on Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar to strengthen Coast Guard response and bring the long-awaited Fisheries Bill to Parliament.
FFOS says over 50,000 citizens depend on the fishing industry for survival.
