With the positive news about US support to develop the Dragon gas field in Venezuela, the Energy Chamber has welcomed the move.
In a statement, the Chamber emphasized the importance of Venezuelan gas to the future of T&T’s gas and petrochemical sectors, and congratulated the Prime Minister on securing the agreement.
However, former Energy Minister, Stuart Young, weighed in, highlighted the UNC’s apparent U-turn and reminded the public that Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar had previously declared the Dragon deal dead.
In noting the success of such deals, he said they depend heavily on diplomacy and mutual respect, especially given the gas is owned by a sovereign state.
