Officials from the EMA met today with Justice Minister Devesh Maharaj to discuss strategic collaborations and advancing amendments to the Environmental Management Act Chap 35:05.
Key matters discussed included noise management, access to environmental justice, mediation and involvement of the EMA within the court process, assessment methodologies, and improved coordination among agencies involved in environmental regulation and enforcement.
There was also an emphasis on enhancing procedural clarity and reinforcing institutional collaboration between the EMA and the Environmental Commission of T&T.
With regard to the proposed amendments to the EM Act, the EMA says a structured programme of public consultation is expected, allowing stakeholders, civil society organisations, industry representatives and community groups to have some input.
