Dr. Keith Rowley has today criticized the Prime Minister’s statement of support for the United States’ deployment of military assets near Venezuela, to deal with drug cartels.
She also said if Venezuela attacked Guyana, TT would let its territory be used as a base by the US.
Dr. Rowley, in a Facebook post this morning, said he believes the government issued what may be the most reckless foreign policy statement we’ve seen in years.
He was critical that she said the government has no intention of engaging CARICOM on the matter.
The former Prime Minister believes from her statement, CARICOM unity is compromised, Venezuela relations have been poisoned and American access has been granted without guarantees.
He said Trinidad has just swapped regional solidarity for a pat on the head from Washington. Dr. Rowley also pointed out that not a word about parliamentary debate, or about consultation with the citizens on the matter.
