Political analyst Dr Bishnu Ragoonath says independent senators are free to vote as they see fit, based on what they believe is in the best interest of the country.
Speaking with 103.1FM News today, he was responding to comments by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar that “independent senators are not truly independent because they are appointed by the President.
Dr Bishnu Ragoonath adds that there is no reference in law that refers to Presidential nominated Senators as Independent.
Dr Ragoonath adds that regardless of the Government’s position, it has to work with the established law.
