Debate is expected to begin this afternoon on the Probation of Offenders Amendment Bill 2026 in the Senate.

The Bill seeks to amend the Probation of Offender Act to provide for the Courts to sentence an offender to imprisonment and thereafter a period of probation.

The Senate is also set to debate changes to the Law Revision Amendment Bill.

Meanwhile, tributes will be paid to the late former Independent Senator Stephen Creese, who served from 2015 to 2018.

Senator Creese served as Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and was CEO at the National Center for Persons with Disabilities.

He passed away in March of 2026.
