An executive of the Children’s Authority says mechanisms are in place to ensure children can report instance of abuse and maltreatment.
Speaking during a Joint Select Committee hearing, Rhonda Gregorie-Roopchand was responding to a question from Senator Phillip Alexander’s inquiry on child complaint mechanisms.
“One of the mandatory steps is that we must engage the children individually, in private, separate and apart from the managers of the home. Where there is a need, we can take the children out of that space to have conversations with them to fully understand what they experience,” she said.
“Also we provided instructions to advise our therapeutic intervention providers, because sometimes a child may feel more comfortable to share in a therapeutic safe space.”
