Vendors at the Chaguanas Vendors Mall clashed briefly with police yesterday as demolition crews cleared stalls for a new transport hub.
Mayor Faaiq Mohammed said vendors were given notice and alternative space at the Chaguanas Market, rent-free for six months, but some refused to relocate.
Affected vendors expressed frustration, saying their livelihoods were disrupted and losses were looming ahead of Mother’s Day.
Officials say the project aims to modernize downtown Chaguanas, improve safety, and create a more organized environment for business.
