The Community-based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme, CEPEP, has filed a major lawsuit against its former chairman Joel Edwards and several former board members.

It alleges deceit and negligence linked to the extension of service contracts just days before the 2025 general election.

The matter is before Justice Christopher Sieuchand.

CEPEP claims Edwards falsely told executives that Cabinet had approved contract extensions of up to three years, prompting the company to commit to significant financial obligations.

However, an internal review later found no such Cabinet approval existed.

The company says it has already paid more than 6.6 million dollars following the termination of those contracts and expects further legal costs.

CEPEP is now seeking damages, indemnities and declarations that the former board breached their fiduciary duties, as the case moves before the High Court.
