The Central Bank says no decision has been made on the future of the five-cent coin.
In a notice, the Bank says it is considering whether to stop issuing and possibly demonetise the coin as a cost-saving measure.
It currently costs about 24 cents to produce each five-cent piece.
If a decision is taken, the Bank says the public will be notified in advance, and will give details on how coins can be redeemed.
