The President of the Trinidad and Tobago Automotive Dealers Association is calling on the Government to revert its decision to increase the age limit on imported foreign vehicles.
Yesterday, Trade Minister Satyakama Maharaj announced the import age limit for used vehicles will raise from three to eight years, two years more than the six-year cap proposed in the recent Budget.
Speaking to 103.1FM News today, the Association’s President Visham Babwah expressed disappointment over the Government’s decision.
Mr Babwah said the Association recommended a six-year import limit, but Government’s move to exceed that shows their input was disregarded.
He added that the higher age limit could also bring challenges associated with older vehicles.
Mr Babwah said even though the older vehicles may be cheaper, they could be burdened with higher maintenance cost and limited warranty.
