A 19-year-old Aranguez resident died last night, after a road accident along the Beetham Highway led to his vehicle landing in the nearby river.
According to reports, Kavish Persad was driving his white Hyundai Ionic around 10pm, when he crashed into another vehicle.
A Guardian Media report stated that his vehicle then truck a water main, went airborne and landed in the Laventille River.
The National Council for Indian Culture issued a statement today, sending condolences to the driver’s family, as Kavish was the son of Pundit Maniedeo Persad, of the SWAHA organization.
Condolences were also sent by Pundit Sunil Seetahal Maharaj and the Ganesh Utsav Foundation to Pundit Manideo and the SWAHA family.
Kavish was also a Pundit, and had just received his CAPE results the day before.
 
Meanwhile, a motorist, who stopped at the side of Beetham Highway to assist the victims of the fatal Beetham Highway accident, was beaten and robbed by a group of men.
A Guardian Media article said a man who pulled up after noticing the crash, began helping to pull one of the drivers from the wreckage.
He reported that someone grabbed him from behind, and several men began beating him before stealing $10,000 as well as his ID and bank cards.
The assailants then ran away.
