US President Donald Trump says he is open to speaking directly with Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro about proposals aimed at preventing further US military escalation.
According to Reuters, when asked whether he would engage in direct talks with Mr. Maduro, President Trump responded, “I probably would talk to him, yeah. I talk to everybody.”
Following those remarks, President Maduro said that political differences should be resolved through diplomacy, adding that he is prepared for face-to-face discussions with anyone willing to engage.
However, President Trump has not ruled out the possibility of deploying American troops to Venezuela, as when he was pressed on the issue, he said, “No, I don’t rule out that. I don’t rule out anything.”
