Coast Guard Kieron Simon

It is now more than five months since Coast Guard officer Keiron Simon disappeared at sea and his family is asking why authorities are letting this matter go unresolved.

Mr Simon went down with a vessel during a marine operation on February 21st.

In an interview with 103.1FM News this morning, his brother, Kevlon Simon, appealed to the Government to intervene and bring closure to the situation.

He said the Coast Guard informed him that his brother’s salary would be stopped at the end of July, even though he has not been declared dead.

According to military law, a person can only be deemed dead after being missing for seven years.

He was also told that efforts to retrieve his brother’s remains have been stalled, as funds are not available for the operation.

Mr Simon said Coast Guard officials recommended the family contact the Defence Ministry to expedite the situation, but attempts to do so have been unsuccessful.

Attempts to contact the Coast Guard and the Ministry have been unsuccessful.
