Fighting has resumed in Israel-Gaza war after a seven-day temporary ceasefire expired.

BBC News says both sides have blamed each other for the resumption of the violence.

During the temporary ceasefire, more than 100 Israeli hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres says he “deeply regrets” the resumption in fighting in Gaza.

In a social media statement, he says, “I still hope that it will be possible to renew the pause that was established. The return to hostilities only shows how important it is to have a true humanitarian ceasefire.”
