The Energy Ministry has requested the T&T Bureau of Standards to reconvene the TTBS Specifications Committee to review and update national LPG safety standards following recent cylinder incidents.
In a release this afternoon, the Minsitry assured that its primary focus remains enhancing regulatory oversight, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and preventing future tragedies, while increasing public awareness on the proper handling and use of LPG cylinders.
It added that it is working closely with stakeholders, including the Fire Service and the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, to review draft LPG regulations prepared in 2020, to ensure they meet modern safety requirements.
It added that meetings are ongoing with major LPG suppliers, including inspection and safety protocol assessments across the supply chain.
The next meeting of the TTBS Specifications Committee is expected in early November.
