West Indies have produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat England by 30 runs under the lights at the Wankhede Stadium.
Batting first, the Windies posted 196 for 6, thanks to a calculated yet powerful unbeaten 76 from Sherfane Rutherford.
Roston Chase chipped in with 34, while Adil Rashid tried to keep England in the contest with an impressive 2 for 16 in a boundary-less spell.
England’s chase of 197 got off to a flying start, racing to 67 for 1 in the powerplay with Phil Salt leading the charge.
Despite early setbacks at 8 for 2 in the West Indies innings, England appeared to have the upper hand at several stages.
But the momentum shifted dramatically once the Windies introduced spin.
Gudakesh Motie led the squeeze with 3 for 33, while Chase supported superbly with 2 for 29, as the pair combined to strangle England through the middle overs.
Akeal Hosein also struck at a key moment, and a sharp direct hit run-out from Jason Holder to remove Jofra Archer summed up England’s fading hopes.
Sam Curran battled to an unbeaten 43, but it was not enough, as England were bowled out for 166.
The victory halts England’s run of 11 wins in 12 T20 internationals and serves as a reminder of West Indies’ enduring pedigree on the world stage.
