West Indies’ preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup have been disrupted, with star batsman Shimron Hetmyer stranded in South Africa due to unresolved visa issues.
The Guyanese left-hander has been unable to travel to India to join the rest of the squad, just days before the team’s opening warm-up match against Scotland.
Cricket West Indies has confirmed the delay, saying the matter is expected to be resolved soon, but concerns are growing as the countdown to the tournament continues.
The setback comes as the rest of the West Indies team ramps up match preparations, following their warm-up defeat to Afghanistan earlier this week.
Hetmyer’s absence is keenly felt, given his red-hot form. He recently topped the batting charts in a three-match T20 series against South Africa, scoring 171 runs, including a blistering 75 at a strike rate of 178.
The situation has again highlighted administrative challenges ahead of major international tournaments.
