Venezuela’s Foreign Affairs Minister says the country is not seeking a military confrontation with the US or anyone else.
In an interview with CNN, Minister Yván Gil ruled out a military escalation of tensions, but added the country is prepared to deter any possible threat.
He declined to comment on possible military alliances with other Latin American countries and the region since a “pro-peace” stance has been maintained.
Recently President Nicolas Maduro announced the deployment of 25,000 more soldiers to the the Caribbean coast and the border with Colombia.
This is in addition to the already 10,000 stationed in areas constituted “a drug trafficking routes”.
Military operations will include patrols to detect coca cultivation backed by naval, air, drone and river units.
