The US State Department is pausing all immigrant visa processing for 75 countries, including a number of Caribbean nations.
According to a report by Fox News, an internal memo directs consular officers to refuse visas under existing law.
The pause will begin on January 21st and continue indefinitely until the department conducts a reassessment of immigrant visa processing.
The Caribbean nations affected include Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The other countries named are Somalia, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and Yemen.
