The United States has revoked visas and imposed new restrictions on several individuals in Nicaragua accused of facilitating illegal immigration into the country.
In a statement issued today, the State Department said the measures target owners and senior officials of transportation companies, travel agencies, and tour operators found to be assisting migrants attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.
The action, taken under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, follows investigations that linked these operators to travel routes enabled by what Washington describes as Nicaragua’s “permissive-by-design” migration policies.
The State Department says it will not tolerate activities that undermine U.S. national security or immigration laws, and is moving to disrupt smuggling networks and protect the integrity of its borders.
