The Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT) has issued an apology to viewers following an audio interruption during its live coverage of the Calypso segment of Dimanche Gras on Sunday night.
There were allegations of interference and or censorship because of the nature of the calypsonian’s song, which was critical of the government.
The disruption occurred during the performance of calypsonian Helon Francis, when the audio feed was lost for approximately 15 minutes. TTT explained that the issue was traced to a lack of incoming signal from the stage boxes, with engineers subsequently identifying a connectivity fault.
According to the broadcaster, the problem was not caused by a physical cable failure but rather a localized network or synchronization error within the audio system. TTT said that following system restarts, the audio signal was successfully re-established and normal transmission resumed.
In its statement, TTT noted that the disruption was likely caused by a Dante network routing error or a specific connectivity fault between the audio board and the digital stage boxes. The broadcaster added that it is now conducting a full diagnostic review of its systems to prevent a recurrence during future live events.
The station apologised for the inconvenience caused to viewers and assured the public that steps are being taken to strengthen system reliability for major national broadcasts.
