Starting this Sunday, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force will join forces with the 22nd US Marine Expeditionary Unit for a week-long series of intensive training exercises.

Foreign Affairs Minister Sean Sobers said the drills, which run through next Friday, highlight the long-standing collaboration between the TT Defence Force and the US military.

He described the “intensified exercises” as a key part of a coordinated strategy to ensure the Defence Force is fully prepared to tackle gun-related crime.

Minister Sobers emphasized that the training should be viewed in the context of the country’s ongoing crime challenges.

The government is committed to making Trinidad and Tobago “a zone of peace,” and military readiness is a central part of that plan.
