The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce says it is “encouraged” following a meeting with Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander.
Held last week, both parties discussed issues relating to security, trade facilitation, and regional integration.
Matters covered included:
- Crime and Security – Collaboration between the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and
 the TT Chamber on the issues of crime and security. The Home Invasion Bill. The TT
 Chamber’s budget recommendation for tax incentives to businesses that invest in crime
 prevention equipment.
- Customs and Excise Division – Balancing border security with trade facilitation and
 ensuring the Customs and Excise Division is equipped with state-of-the-art scanning
 technology to improve efficiency in the clearing of cargo and the ease of doing business at
 all ports of entry.
- Immigration – The free movement of skilled labour as a fundamental pillar of the
 CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Ensuring that Immigration Officers
 recognize that holders of valid CSME Skills Certificates were entitled to enter and work
 without the need for a work permit. The TT Chamber’s support for the full and free
 movement of skilled labour under the CSME. The immediate advancement towards the
 implementation of paperless immigration landing forms.
- Community Safety – Strengthening the TT Chamber’s Neighbourhood Crime Watch
 Programme in partnership with the E999 Unit, and the work of Crime Stoppers.
- Youth Mentorship – The Chamber’s endorsement of the Ministry’s proposed youth
