Trinidad and Tobago’s sporting fraternity is mourning the loss of table tennis great Lionel Darceuil, who died early on Friday morning.

Darceuil was one of the country’s most accomplished players, a former national number one who won titles across different classes.

He also excelled at the Caribbean level, where is the only Trinidad and Tobago player to win the regional triple-crown of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

Renowned for his skill, longevity and sportsmanship, Darceuil also played a key role in developing the sport locally.

The former president of the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association, Stanley Hunte, said Darceuil would be remembered as a fierce, confident competitor.
