Trade Minister seeks Cabinet approval for new scrap metal inspectors

Trade Minister Satyakama Maharaj has confirmed that a note will be taken to Cabinet for the approval of eight additional Scrap Metal Inspectors to meet industry demands.

This follows a meeting with the Trinidad and Tobago Scrap Iron Dealers Association today.

The meeting addressed key issues, including a shortage of inspectors and illegal scrap metal operations.

Minister Maharaj also agreed to establish a working group with industry stakeholders to tackle ongoing challenges, ensuring better regulation and compliance within the sector.
