The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) has deployed a Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) officer to assist with disaster-response efforts in Jamaica following recent severe weather.

Melaura Agbeko, Assistant Director and Operations Chief of TEMA, will be on the ground for one week, with additional TEMA personnel providing ongoing support until recovery operations stabilize.

The deployment comes as the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) activates its Regional Response Mechanism (RRM) and sends a Rapid Needs Assessment Team (RNAT) to support the Government of Jamaica.

Ms. Agbeko will join the RNAT to conduct on-the-ground damage assessments, identify priority needs, and coordinate with local authorities.

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine expressed solidarity with the people of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, emphasizing that the THA’s contribution, including trained personnel and relief efforts, forms part of a coordinated regional response.

The THA said the deployment underscores its commitment to disaster preparedness, regional cooperation, and resilience-building across the Caribbean.
