Finance Minister Dave Tancoo has dismissed an inaccurate newspaper report that suggested there were no funds in the National Budget to pay public servants.
He rejected what he called “the misleading interpretation suggested by the headline,” noting that his remarks before the parliamentary committee were taken out of context.
In a media release issued on Wednesday, Mr Tancoo said he never stated that funds were unavailable for wage settlements to public officers.
He stressed that his comments were intended to reassure public officers and citizens that the government remains fully committed to meeting all its financial obligations
The release clarified that “the Budget provides sufficient allocations to meet current obligations,” adding that the government will follow proper parliamentary procedures to secure any additional resources if needed.
