St Lucia has instructed Uber, the world’s largest ride-sharing operation, to suspend services until it complies with local laws.

According to the St Lucia Times, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire said the company is operating illegally in the country, as it lacks a trade licence, tax registration, and required local certification.

The National Taxi Union has advised members not to sign up on the Uber platform, warning of possible action.

Meanwhile, St Lucia Times said it has confirmed that the Uber app remains active, as the government awaits further talks with the company.
