Spain will observe three days of mourning, following a deadly high-speed train crash that has killed at least 39 people.
According to BBC News, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez says a full investigation is underway to determine the cause, where most of those killed and injured were in the front carriages of the train.
The crash occurred on Sunday when a Madrid-bound train derailed, crossed onto the opposite track, and collided with an oncoming service.
Transport Minister Oscar Puente described the incident as “extremely strange,” noting it happened on a straight section of track.
Rail operator Iryo says the Madrid train was built in 2022 and was inspected just four days ago.
