President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum ordering the US withdrawal from 66 international organizations, including several United Nations bodies.
The White House says the groups no longer serve American interests and waste taxpayer’s money.
The move is part of President Trump’s broader “America First” policy, aimed at protecting US sovereignty and redirecting resources to domestic priorities.
In a statement, State Secretary Marco Rubio said some of the institutions were working in agendas contrary to the interests of the United States.
To date, the US has withdrawn from the World Health Organization, the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN Human Rights Council and prohibited any future funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for the Near East (UNRWA).
