A late-night joint police and prison operation has uncovered a stash of contraband at the External Remand Facility and the Golden Grove Prison in Arouca.
The exercise, conducted between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, involved officers of the Prison Emergency Response Unit and the TTPS.
Among the items seized were 14 cell phones, 12 SIM cards, marijuana, improvised weapons, and a bottle with a false bottom.
Eight inmates are expected to be charged in connection with the finds.
Officials say the operation, coordinated by Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro and Acting Prisons Commissioner Hayden Forde, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security within correctional facilities.
