The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs says Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s first official overseas visit to the United States delivered immediate and measurable benefits for Trinidad and Tobago.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Ministry noted that details of the nine-day mission were provided to the Senate on February 3rd.
The visit, held during the UN General Assembly and meetings in Washington, was budgeted at under one million dollars, rising to one-point-one million with additional high-level engagements.
The Ministry says the trip included about 30 strategic meetings and has already helped generate international interest in Trinidad and Tobago’s economic revitalization plans.
“This prudent, results-driven approach stands in stark contrast to the pattern under the former administration, where overseas travel often amounted to little more than taxpayer-funded joyriding with no tangible outcomes for citizens,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated.
“This government’s approach is difference: every engagement was strategic, purposeful and focused on delivering real returns for the nation.”
