Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has presented promised $1M ex-gratia payments to those affected by the Paria diving tragedy.
Energy Minister Roodal Moonilal made the announcement at today’s Post Cabinet media briefing.
He said payments were handed over to Christopher Boodram, and the families of Rishi Nagessar and Fyzal Kurban.
The presentation was made on Thursday at the Diplomatic Centre.
Christopher Boodram, Rishi Nagessar, Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry and Kazim Ali Jr were all sucked into a pipeline during maintenance works in February 2022.
Only Mr Boodram survived after crawling out over the course of several hours.
