Leader of the Patriotic Front, Mikela Panday, says not enough is being done to protect the south-east peninsula, from illegal guns, drugs, and human trafficking.

She said words alone cannot protect T&T and called on the Government “to match the talk to the reality on the ground.”

A Facebook post today showed where she visited the Cedros Coast Guard Facility and noted that there was one operational coast guard vessel at sea.

In the video, she highlighted a pirogue, which she claims is without fuel and due to this, not operational.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the TTPS will be increasing its surveillance of the coastline as part of the Government’s efforts to deal with illegal immigration head on.

According to a report in the T&T Express, she said the Cedros Coast Guard Facility will be upgraded and more vessels have been dispatched to the area.

The Prime Minister also added plans are underway to deport more than 200 Venezuelans who are currently incarcerated.
