Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath is denying claims he was intoxicated after being booed while addressing patrons at the Hyatt Lime Fete on Wednesday night.
A video circulating on social media shows Padarath on stage praising Works and Infrastructure Minister Jearlean John as the founder of the event.
During his remarks, some members of the crowd began to boo.
Responding to criticism, including comments from Opposition MP Marvin Gonzales, Padarath told the Trinidad Express he was not drunk and did nothing inappropriate, describing the atmosphere as festive.
He added that those booing were in the minority and defended his comments as recognition of a hard-working colleague.
