The Opposition of Trinidad and Tobago and the People’s National Movement (PNM) have extended congratulations to Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) on their recent electoral victory.

In a statement, Opposition Leader Hon. Pennelope A. Beckles, MP, said the outcome reflects the continued confidence of the Barbadian people in Prime Minister Mottley’s leadership and her commitment to national development and regional engagement.

“Prime Minister Mottley first took office on May 25, 2018, becoming Barbados’ first female Prime Minister. Since then, she has led the country through a period of significant economic reform and oversaw its historic transition to a parliamentary republic in 2021,” Ms Beckles Robinson stated.

“Her administration has also been recognized for elevating the concerns of Small Island Developing States on the international stage, particularly in advocating for climate justice and fair financing for vulnerable nations.”

Mrs. Beckles said the Opposition welcomes Mottley’s renewed mandate and looks forward to continued collaboration grounded in partnership, progress and Caribbean unity.

The statement also acknowledged the Democratic Labour Party and its candidates for their participation in the democratic process, noting that strong democracies depend on principled representation and meaningful engagement across the political spectrum.

Highlighting the shared interests of CARICOM member states, Mrs. Beckles said Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados remain united in advancing economic resilience, social progress and regional solidarity.

“The people of Barbados have once again demonstrated their steadfast commitment to democracy. As fellow Small Island Developing States within CARICOM, our nations remain united in purpose, working together to advance economic resilience, social progress and regional solidarity,” Ms Beckles-Robinson stated.

She concluded by wishing the Government and people of Barbados continued success and reaffirmed a commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
