The North Central Regional Health Authority has increased diagnostic imaging scans by more than forty thousand compared to the same period last year.
The additional tests include MRIs, CT scans, mammograms, ultrasounds and X-rays.
Chairman Dr. Tim Gopeesingh says the current Board inherited a significant backlog when it assumed office in August, but consultations with the Radiology Department led to immediate changes to reduce waiting lists.
Chief Executive Officer Bhadase Seetahal-Maraj says timely imaging improves early detection, reduces hospitalization and lowers healthcare costs.
The NCRHA says efforts are ongoing to further cut waiting times this year.
In addition, the North Central Regional Health Authority says it is strengthening surgical services and expanding access to care across its hospitals.
Head of Surgical Services, Mr. Ian Ramnarine, says the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex plays a critical role in providing specialized procedures not widely available elsewhere in the public system. He notes that collaboration with other institutions is helping to improve patient outcomes nationwide.
The NCRHA is also utilizing facilities such as Arima General Hospital and Couva Children’s Hospital to reduce waiting lists for minor and same-day surgeries.
Chairman Dr. Tim Gopeesingh says the Authority remains committed to delivering safe, quality and timely healthcare.
