The North Central Regional Health Authority says it will meet today with unions representing nurses at the Mount Hope Hospital, amid a call for the workers to hold a silent protest on Friday.
Last weekend, the Authority denied claims of a chronic nursing shortage at the facility, a concern repeatedly raised by union leaders.
Chairman Dr. Tim Gopeesingh this morning confirmed that there are currently 893 staffed nursing positions, all of which are filled.
He added that more than 300 vacancies for Enrolled Nursing Assistants were recently advertised to strengthen frontline capacity.
So far, 34 qualified applicants have been interviewed and are in the process of being appointed, with recruitment ongoing.
Around 40 acting head nurses are also being promoted, opening additional positions for other nurses.
Dr. Gopeesingh says that over the past two weeks, the board has also met with senior nursing officials to review daily operational challenges and begin implementing agreed improvements.
