The North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) has firmly denied what it describes as “reckless, inaccurate, and misleading allegations” that a staffing issue existed at its facilities on November 1st.

In a statement, the Authority clarified that on that date, four wards operated with one registered nurse each instead of two due to unexpected absenteeism, while all other wards maintained satisfactory nurse-to-patient ratios consistent with established operational and clinical standards.

The NCRHA emphasized that patient care and safety were never compromised, calling the allegations false, irresponsible, and unacceptable.

The Authority assured the public that all NCRHA institutions continue to deliver safe, professional, and compassionate care, supported by dedicated teams of doctors, nurses, and support staff.

Under its new Board of Directors, the NCRHA says it has intensified efforts to strengthen service delivery, enhance staff support, and improve patient outcomes across all facilities.

Recently, the Authority hosted a meeting with Nursing Administrators, Nursing Managers, and the Head of Nursing to address issues affecting the nursing profession.

Currently, the NCRHA’s establishment includes 893 nursing positions—all of which are filled. The Authority has also advertised 345 vacancies for Enrolled Nursing Assistants to boost frontline services, but only 34 qualified applicants have so far been successfully interviewed and appointed.

The NCRHA says these verified facts are provided to ensure the public receives “a clear and accurate understanding of the situation, free from distortion or misinformation.”

Reaffirming its commitment to excellence, transparency, and accountability, the Authority added that it remains open to constructive engagement with all stakeholders, including the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association (TTRNA), to continue strengthening the national health system and upholding the highest standards of patient care.
