The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has launched a new National Agricultural Training Initiative, known as NATI, aimed at revitalizing the sector and boosting food production.

The programme officially began on Thursday.

Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram says NATI will equip farmers, youth and cooperatives with modern, climate-smart and market-ready skills in crop production, livestock, agro-processing and agritechnology.

More than one thousand people have already enrolled in the first round of courses.

The Ministry says the initiative is expected to strengthen food security and reduce the country’s food import bill.

The programme aims to enhance productivity, add value, and strengthen food security by providing hands-on training and skills that are applicable in the field and in the market.

With a strong focus on community development, NATI brings information and experience closer to citizens, making it easily accessible nationwide.
